Water Harvesting

Hilly regions the world over receive more rain fall as compared to plains in the same area and yet they usually face water scarcity in drier seasons. For example the western Ghats of Maharashtra (Four Districts Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg) receive torrential rain-fall every rainy season, yet a large part of the area of around 5000 habitations (villages, pada, basti etc) of 500 Gram Panchayats, are severely affected by annual summer time water scarcity. This water scarcity has become a strong impediment in development process of the area.
